* DON'T EVADE THE NECESSITY OF WRITING A BUSINESS PLAN

--Start with an outline and grow to a full plan that

contains the budget, marketing plan, goals, etc..

Planning is essential to growth & success.

 

* Don't try to compete with major stores....offering a product that is

 not unique (or exclusive) or that is

available widely in major stores.

 

* LEARN THE LAWS THAT PERTAIN TO YOUR BUSINESS--

Avoid  violating various laws & regulations, such as: 

 Postal Regulations for Mail Order and

MLM Laws via the Federal Trade Commission

 

* Don't limit your product line to only 1 or 2 items.

Your income will suffer if your inventory is low.

 

* GET THE PROPER BUSINESS LICENSE,

name your business,  choose a logo, print up

business cards & brochures; look professional;

file your DBA; do what your State requires from business;

...eventually set up a corporation for asset protection.

 

* DON'T FORGET TO TAKE TIME TO READ & STUDY

books, manuals, articles, etc. that contain good info and

resources for your business; or material written

 by experts in the field.

 

 

  

Good Marketing Strategies--

 

1)      The first important aspect of any business is to offer something valuable & unique to customers and/or clients.   

 

You must have at least one product, book, or service that is unique and desirable. 

 

        **  A small  (home-based business) must have something 

               better (or exclusive or cheaper) to offer than what is available in major stores.

 

"Small or home-based businesses must focus on offering products

or services that are unique (exclusive, rare, or discounted) --- and not

 the same things that are offered in the big stores. Don't start up

 a business selling WIDGETS, if they are sold at HOME DEPOT

...unless your Widgets are extremely better, cheaper, different or

 unique. Unless you want to climb uphill to the bottom...

IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA to start out trying to compete against

Wal-Mart, Sears, Office Depot, GNC, etc."

 

2)      Next,  you must find out who and where your market is. 

 Who wants what you have?

                

   * NETWORK --   get out to events, meetings, flea markets,

 ball games, clubs, etc. and distribute  your

business cards & brochures or conduct surveys.

           

 

3)      The next important ingredient to your business success is to find affordable  

 and effective ways to advertise what you offer. 

 

                         HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS:

 

         Use the many “mail order” services which offer low cost advertising.

         Place classified ads instead of big expensive display ads.

         Purchase or gather your own mailing list of potential customers.

         Use email marketing & autoresponders.

         - OFFER A FREEBIE—to customers who respond.

         USE POSTCARDS  (inexpensive postage & very effective)

         Do a “CONTEST”--- or drawing.  

                       People enter with their names, addresses, etc.  (leads)

         Set up your own WEBSITE….

                           Use your website to:

 

a)      Display and sell your products & services

b)      Generate leads

c)      Promote the benefits of your products or services.
